The symbolic company Bookblocks.io has partnered with a New York-based organization to provide access to education for women in Afghanistan during the Taliban conquest. Bookblocks.io announced that on October 5 it will launch an irreplaceable token, or NFT, with funding for Women for Afghan Women, an organization that helps women access education and training in Afghanistan and the United States. This work, inspired by American writer Louise May Olcott, features a woman's half face covered in butterfly wings, with the quote "Nothing is impossible for a persistent woman".

When the Taliban took control of Afghanistan in the 1990s, they banned nearly all women and girls from education. Practical history repeated itself when, following the withdrawal of the US military last month, extremist Islamist groups took over the government and advised only boys and girls to return to school. Deputy Education Minister Zabihula Mujahidd mysteriously said that the Taliban planned to give women and girls access to education "as soon as possible". “This is a generation that grew up full of hope and dreaming of their future through education,” said Nahid Samadi Bahram, director of Women for Afghan Women in the United States. "We are committed to serving Afghan women and girls in Afghanistan and Afghan refugees arriving in the United States."

According to Bookblocks.io, 100% of the money raised from the sale of NFT goes to Women for Afghan Women, with a balance of 5% for each subsequent sale. The company plans to cut 2,200 copies of the NFT to honor the 2.2 million girls who are reportedly currently unable to attend school in Afghanistan. Prices start at 0.025 Ether (ETH), or about $75.54 at the time of publication. Afghan women, who are at risk of death, beating and imprisonment, continue to protest, via social media and face-to-face demonstrations, against the Taliban's position on preventing them from attending school. Code to Inspire, a school that aims to teach programming and robotics to Afghan girls, continues to teach online as the situation evolves.

Since thousands of Afghans have been accepted as refugees in various countries since the Taliban took over the densely populated area, many non-profit organizations accept donations in cryptocurrency. Thousands, if not millions, of Afghans are trying to flee their homes for fear of what the Taliban might do now, they control much of the country. Refugees and local aid agencies say: They need money to support Afghans arriving abroad, often with clothes on their backs. New York-based Hearts & Homes for Refugees, a non-profit, is currently soliciting donations to help the approximately 20,000 Afghans still in the country waiting for US authorities to process special immigrant visas. The group hopes to raise enough funds to relocate Afghan families to Westchester County and currently accepts Bitcoin (BTC), Ether (ETH), Bitcoin Cash (BCH), Litecoin (LTC), ZCash (ZEC), Gemini Dollar (GUSD) , BAL , Yearn.Finance (YFI), Polygon (MATIC), Synthetix (SNX) and Bancor (BNT) via integration with Giving Block.

CARE, an organization working for women and girls with offices around the world, said 393,000 Afghans were displaced during the Taliban takeover and were in dire need of help. Jack Butcher, founder of consulting firm Visualize Value, has launched a number of NFT "incompetent tokens" or "maintenance packages," each designed for sale to cover the company's estimated costs of meeting the immediate needs of families to cover a month.

Butcher said that the 0.028 ETH income from each NFT sale - a total of $124,576 as of Aug. 19 - goes directly to CARE to help Afghans. At the time of publication, 195 individual NFTs are still available for purchase. Crypto users also have the option to buy 10 at a time for 0.28 ETH, or about $914, to help 10 families by the end of September. Several organizations with field operations in Afghanistan are still in touch via social media and asking for help. Code to Inspire, a school designed to teach Afghan girls programming and robotics, accepts cryptocurrency through the Giving Block. Founder Fareshteh Forough announced today those students are "still programming at home". The situation in Afghanistan is still evolving, but there are reports of attacks, killings and human rights abuses as the Taliban strengthen their position. However, it is important for well-meaning cryptocurrency users to remember who they are donating to. Some fear scammers may use media attention to their advantage by stealing donations to Afghanistan.

New York-based non-profit charity: water received a donation of over $1 million from BTC to the Bitcoin water trust within three weeks of the fund's launch. The Bitcoin Water Trust was announced at the 2021 Bitcoin Conference in Miami. This initiative attracted attention with its strategy for the state treasury administration "HODL MODL" - a non-profit organization that accepts donations in Bitcoin, which will not take effect until 2025. According to the charity's website, a total of 32.5949 BTC has been donated to date, which is more than $1.3 million at current prices. The charity hopes to capitalize on the hypothetical gains Bitcoin could generate in the years to come. A June 14 blog post by Gemini, a US cryptocurrency exchange that provides cryptocurrency escrow services, argues that donations received today from charities could have a much greater impact if maintained in the future: “This new charity model - HODL MODL - creates a new paradigm for donations. This brings the HODL Bitcoin ethic to charitable giving and means your donation to Bitcoin can have a bigger impact today.

Gemini founders Tyler and Cameron Winklevoss also agreed to double the first 50 bitcoins donated to the Bitcoin Water Trust. "We are excited to help other organizations, led by missions like Charity: Water, accept bitcoin and maximize their humanitarian efforts," the release added. Charity: Water was founded in 2006 with non-profiles working to launch a municipal water project that provides clean water and sanitation to developing countries. The organization started accepting donations for bitcoin in 2014. Charity has become a popular topic in the crypto industry in recent months after Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin donated billions of SHIB tokens from the meme coin maker to his wallet.

Buterin donated one-tenth of his SHIB holdings to charity after burning the remaining 90% to prevent other altcoin developers from dumping large amounts of their tokens into their promotional wallets. India's Covid Relief Fund is one of the biggest recipients of Buterin's hideout for the dog symbol, receiving over $1 billion worth of SHIBs. On May 31, the Human Rights Foundation (HRF), an organization that supports human rights activism around the world, launched several Bitcoin-based grants under the $210,000 Bitcoin Development Fund.
