The legendary Bitcoin creator Satoshi Nakamoto was honoured with a bronze statue in his name which is now on display for visitors of Graphisot park in Budapest. During the unveiling ceremony on Thursday, Andras Gyorfi the co-founder of the statue project and editor of crypto news site Kripto Akademia addressed a crowd of journalists and Hungarian residents before introducing the bronze statue of Satoshi. The sculpture showcases the upper half of the figure with a featureless face wearing a hoodie with the Bitcoin (BTC) logo.
“Whoever he or she was, Bitcoin creates value, and especially the technology behind Bitcoin, Blockchain, creates value,” said Gyorfi. Debreczeni Barnabas, CEO of Hungarian crypto exchange Shinrai stated that, “Satoshi Nakamoto has created an independent money free of any middlemen that empowered people with financial sovereignty…we have erected this statue to remind ourselves courage is virtue. We need to keep on dreaming big.”
The statue was created by sculptors Gergely Reka and Tamas Gilly was created with a mirrored face, tried to express the idea “we are all Satoshi” to the audiences. Mr. Coin, Kripto Akademia, the Blockchain Hungary Association and Blockchain Budapest all supported the “statue of Satoshi” project. Satoshi’s likeness will be in the park near some depictions of Apple co-founder Steve Jobs and other important figures. Even though there has been doubts regarding Satoshi’s identity and appearance no one has successfully recognized the Bitcoin creator.
