Here is the list of the largest hit of NFT sales that took place in the year 2021.
The must-have token, or NFT, became such a tech buzzword in 2021 that it was even named Word of the Year by the Collins Dictionary and Google searches for NFT rose to record highs. The term hides a market that, according to Research, is close to $17 billion. And OpenSea's NFT marketplace is responsible for handling most of these transactions, with trading volumes recently exceeding $10 billion.
The potential of NFT goes far beyond the arts to include music, collectibles, and video games, while its uses include proprietary and exclusive access to unique features and functions. From CryptoPunks and Beeple collages to NBA Top Shot and RTFKT, the following collections stand out not only in numbers, but also in their growing community. Until the end of 2021, let's take a look at the top 10 NFT collections and sales of the year.
CryptoPunks, Larva Lab
According to DappRadar, CryptoPunks is the OG of NFT. The collection started in 2017 before the ERC-721 NFT standard existed. Larva Labs released 10,000 free punks for Ethereum users, and the popularity and value of CryptoPunks in the aftermarket has grown since then. In June 2021, Alien Punk was sold to Sotheby's for $11.75 million. In August, Visa acquired CryptoPunk for $150,000 for its corporate collection, and Hollywood agency UTA signed a deal to use CryptoPunks in the media. In August 2021, a record $400 million was spent on CryptoPunks in one month. In September, Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanyan attended the Met Gala with a CryptoPunk badge.
CryptoPunks has the highest trading volume on OpenSea at 756,984 ether (ETH) ($3.03 billion). Its growing value and historical significance make it the best NFT collection.
Bored Ape Yacht Club, Yuga Labs
The collection with the second highest historical trading volume is the Bored Ape Yacht Club, or BAYC for short, with 266,843 ETH (1.07 billion US dollars).
The core team behind Yuga Labs is made up of four friends who, according to their website, "want to make some drug monkeys this year, test our skills, and try to build something ridiculous". The leading artist behind BAYC is AllSeeing Seneca. As the owner of one of 10,000 Bored Apes, the NFT can function as a Yacht Club membership card and only grants access to BATH, Bored Ape Kennel Club, and Mutant Ape Yacht Club or MAYC.
In September, Sotheby's sold its 107 BAYC NFT collection, consisting of 101 Bored Apes and six Mutant Apes, for $24.4 million. It is the third highest selling piece of art outside the NFT chain at auction houses to date, after NFT Tracks Beeple. OpenSea's November sales spike appears to have been driven by more than 900% growth in sales of BAYC and MAYC NFT, likely from buyers from celebrities such as Jimmy Fallon, Post Malone, BAYC NFT in music videos, and rolling. The magazine presented includes the Stone Bored Ape and the Mutant Ape. Most recently, BAYC was part of a four-part collaboration between PUNKS Comic, Gmoney and Adidas Originals to launch the Adidas into the Metaverse NFT project.
On Tuesday, the NFT Bored Ape Yacht Club surpassed the CryptoPunks reserve price for the first time, indicating improved public sentiment for the future of BAYC.
According to Art. set records for the first and second most expensive digital artwork sold at public auction and off-chain market research through November 2021.
Following the sale of British auction house Christie's for $69.3 million to Beeples "Everdays: The First 5000 Days" in March 2021, Beeples "HUMAN ONE" sold in November for $28.9 million. "HUMAN ONE" is a tangible rotating box with a height of 2.80 m made of LED screen. It is physically visible, unlike most NFTs that live in digital wallets. According to Christie, screenshots are regularly edited and updated with the blockchain from Winkelmann in response to current events. Beeple rose to prominence in 2021, especially after winning the GQ Artist of the Year award at the Maddox Gallery in September and starring in the late-night television talk show The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.
Axie Infinity, Sky Mavis
Axie Infinity broke records when the game became the first DApp to hit $2 billion in NFT trading that year, according to an industry report by DappRadar Q3. Axie CryptoPunks lags behind in terms of trading volume. The game recently switched to Ronin's sidechain solution and generated over $776 million in revenue in the third quarter. Axies are creatures used to duel other players, fight enemies, and complete daily missions. These NFTs can be grown (cut), bought and sold, and rewarded in-game for their rarity and benefits. In November, the property was sold as part of an NFT game against monsters for 550 ETH ($2.3 million).
Axie Infinity founder Jeff "Jiho" Zirlin spoke to a panel at the NFT BZL conference earlier this month about his belief that "we fight for the future of the Internet and mass communities like Axie impact big business" in the face of companies like Facebook and Apple.
Axie Infinity was first developed in 2018 and is currently leading the gaming industry as a pioneer in the play-to-earning or P2E movement. And after the launch of a betting program that allows users to hold management tokens Axie Infinity Shards (AXS), the trading game continues to attract more players.

He also welcomed the WNBA to Top Shot and introduced his first WNBA pack.

The hand-painted animal doodles were auctioned for $51 million in the first week of May, Vaynerchuk said in one of the podcast episodes he picked up. After 90 days, VeeFriends had sales of $91 million. For an additional $40 million, Vaynerchuk received a 10% royalty on each secondary transaction. In October, Christie's sold five VeeFriend characters for $1.2 million.
The VeeFriends collection consists of 10,255 NFT symbols and each is an intellectual property. One of the advantages of having VeeFriend is a three-year token for access to VeeCon super conferences for several days. The NFT called Hangout Hawk even offers the option of holding tutoring sessions with Vaynerchuk. One collector, YouTuber Dan Markham, traded his Tesla Roadster for an NFT "Positive Porcupine" by graphic designer Ellie Burton. In a subsequent thread on Twitter, VeeFriends outlines its latest collaborations with companies from card maker Uno to department store Nordstrom.
FLUF World is a collection of pre-made 3D meta-avatars called FLUF that, like NFT, live on the Ethereum blockchain. FLUF is a rabbit avatar created under program control. In an interview with the founders of FLUF World, based in New Zealand, shared their approach to entering the Metaverse. "We firmly believe that metaverse Web 3.0 is a community-led creative vision," they added.
“When you start with a story and weave it into a character, people fall in love with the character. And we deliberately designed it to be dynamic and interesting. This is not a static work of art. You can name it, change the background, or add new music depending on your mood or mood. All this data is stored in a circuit. And consumers are part of the creative journey with us.”
During Miami Art Week, FLUF World hosted an in-house FLUF event to feature pop star FLUF AngelBaby, who gave the first live concert of its kind on the Metaverse for both physical and virtual attendees. FLUF House hosts events that incorporate real-world artists into the metaverse and is a way for FLUF World to stay connected to the physical world. Users can purchase virtual real estate called burrows that will serve as meeting places for FLUF and other avatars. Recent additions to FLUF World include 9,669 party bears which sold out within 10 minutes of launch for users wanting a new avatar to explore the metaverse alongside existing FLUF and things like spiders.

In addition to the NFT shoe, RTFKT has also cut a series of 20,000 three-dimensional avatars into the Ethereum blockchain called Clone X.
